Has anyone ever seen a 600 Workmaster?

A question for the experts- I went to an auction today and saw a 640, serial number 1418740 with diamonds before and after the number. The hood had the embossed Ford script and the decals "Workmaster" on each side. It also had "Model 600" on the doglegs. It had a 600 hood emblem (cyclops). Everything appeared to be original as far as the faded paint all matched.

I thought the names Workmaster and Powermaster were not used until the 601/801 series were introduced. Apparently the above referenced 640 was a very late production 640 and Ford had started producing the Workmaster decals so they were applied to this tractor. Any thoughts on the subject?

BTW- it sold for $1400. An 841 with a brush hog sold for $1600.

My father-in-law and myself bought an old Ford tractor 12 years ago. I was told it was a 1959. You can still see the faded area where the decals were on the side of the hood area. It says 600 workmaster. How do I tell for sure what year and model it is. I would like to restore it? Starting with the seat. The metal frame is sure hard on the old bottom.

I know for a fact that some of the later 1957 800 series tractors had Powermaster on the hoods, and model 800 or 860 on the dogleg. I remember when they unloaded my dad's brand new 860 off the truck in 1957, and I have a picture of him sitting on it. The Powermaster on the hood and the numbers on the dogleg are plainly visible. I know for a fact that no changes were made to the graphics after delivery. I can only assume that the same thing was done to the 600 series in late 1957. By the way, I found the paperwork for my dad's farm sale when he retired in 1969. That tractor sold for $1000, and his 1952 8N sold for $600. Wish I still had both of them. Bought a 1955 860 a few years ago, and paid $2400 and a 1949 WD Allis.

Hello Awhtx, Yes the tractor is factory and correct , the decals came out very late in the 1957 model year of the 100 series tractor just before the beginning of the 1957 01 series tractor . If you remember there was gear in the decal also , the posted picture is to small to see it . It was a one year decal only . Thanks Tony Jacobs

The only tractors I ever saw in the workmaster series had red hoods and the decals would have probably (do not remember) been a different color for that red hood as against a grey hood that is shown in the picture

AWH:

I too have never seen a 6x0 "Workmaster," and I, like most, believe that the Workmaster designation was first used on the 6x1 tractors.

Of course Ford could have introduced the Workmaster decals late in the 6x0 model run or the Workmaster decals could have been added later by an owner or seller.

Let me know the next time you plan to go to a sale. It sounds like you can find the good deals!

If it had the generic 'model 600' ont he doglegs, then most likely the rest of the decals are generic as well. I'd go with whatever model/series was stamped on the bellhousing when going for an ID, The sheet metal could have even been swapped out.

Did the dash have a charge lamp and fuel gage? ( X01 features? )

Dash was a 600- Amps, Oil Press and Temp.
My point is that apparently Ford started adding the name "Workmaster" to the 600's before the changeover to 601 occured. I had never heard of a 600 being called a Workmaster.

Could be somebody did what I did. Not saying it couldn't be factory, but ...

I have an '89 Ford F-250 pickup that has decals on it that became available shortly after it was built. The 4x4 decals on the rear panels were installed by my Ford dealer maybe a year or so after the truck was new. Bet you can't tell them from factory either.

Just something to think about.
