According to the WIX filters Master Catalog:

NAA..... ..... ..51452
850..... ..... ..51775
5000 (late)..... 51714
Automotive Use.. 51515

Some info:

51452... 5.178"HI, 3.660"DIA Bypass 12-15 PSI
51515... 5.178"HI, 3.660"DIA Bypass 08-11 PSI
51714... 6.605"HI, 4.282"DIA Bypass 16 PSI
51775... 5.178"HI, 3.660"DIA Bypass 08-11 PSI

ALL 4 have an anti-drainback valve.

ALL 4 have 3/4-16 threads.

ALL 4 have a gasket OD of 2.834".

ALL APPEAR to have the same "media".

NOWHERE do I see the 51515 listed for tractor use, although I know folks use them and they DO physically "fit".

NOTE... the 51714 has the highest filter relief pressure... perhaps because of the typically "heavier" oil used in the diesels?

Wix 51515 is what my '69 Dodge D300 truck with 318 V8 uses.

Thanks for the info.. It will be very interesting to see what napa and wix have to say about the apparent discrepencies int he filter listings.

I wonder if any of it has to do with gas vs oil engine? Hmm? dunno. I know the old 5000, pre 10-69 used a cartridge filter...

Strange that the 5600 and later are specced with the 1452, but not the 5000.. since the ford OE number crosses to the 5000

can't wait to hear the 'rest of the story' on that one.

At least now I have a bigger crossref list when I am looking for filters... I have been putting the fl1a fitlers on my naa, and 850.. guess I will swap over to a different filter numbers. i find it odd that the naa and 850 don't share the same numbers?!?! The naa 134 engine certaintly should have close tot he same oil pressure capabilities as the the 172 engine.. etc..

a real puzzler!

thansk again

Hi Bob...I'm still burning the midnite oil on this little dilley....Looks like Wix-Napa has singled out one non turboed tractor in their application guide for using the 1714 filter....other than the fiat-motored 4030, the 5000 is a lone soldier in their list for using this filter...The 555, 5600, 6600, and 6700 are all listed as using the 1452 filter...as well as all the older three bangers....The wix book says 1714 for the 5000 only,,...I have sold hundreds of filters for these tractors in the past, and this don't exactly make sense...The New Holland number for this application is 86546614, which crosses over to a 1452..My Napa dealer is supposedly going to be contacting Wix tomorrow to check into the numbers...It sure will be interesting to find out, one way or the other....Lots of snow today,,,good day to stay inside and tap on a keyboard....

BDT, thanks for the help. As I posted to BOB.. I can't wait to see how this pans out. Some of the info seems oddly contradictory on napa/wix's part.. etc..

SouNguy....I just made a direct call to WIX and questioned the 1714 listing. They thanked me for the call, and took my e-mail address and phone number. They will be getting back to me after this investigated...Might be a few days...

Hey, if you see a black van pull into your driveway with a bunch of guys wearing dark suits and sunglasses and one of them is carrying duct tape.. my advice is to not answer the door!!

It is such a small world,,How would those guys know that I ran out of duct tape only yesterday??? I wonder if they will be bringing their fishing poles to try out that deeper spot in the lake???

Wayne...It is always nice to hear a good testimony from a lifelong Ford owner..You have four of the best tractors ever built, and it appears they have served you well..This simply would not have happened if your maintenance program was not up to par.. The Fram PH8A is a direct cross reference to the New Holland number listed for all four of your tractors..Like I have always claimed,"the proof is in the running"....I am curious,,what brand of oil is used in your tractors????

I'm not to sure that the brand of oil has that much to due with it, but staying with one brand, I always thought was important Years ago I started with Havoline API rating DG. Than a neighbor farmer started selling Archer, which I used until he retired and I went back to Havoline. I guess, when I was a kid years ago the local gas station was Texaco were us young lads met for a nights prowel, thus the Havoline.
