I"m close to finishing my 55 ford 960. I want to change the PTO shaft bearing, but there is a external snap ring on the shaft that has a back wards bevel on the ends. This is not a conventional snap ring with eyelets. This ring is also partially shrouded under the bearing cup. Does anyone have the right tool for this. If so, what brand and part number please. I visited a snap on dealer on Saturday and he was not persoanlly familiar with this type of snap ring. The ends just bevel back to the inside. So I need snap ring pliers that will grab the ends and spread it open - from the side. thanks,Brad

Don't buy the harbor freight ones I have a set and they are made out of a non hardened cheap Chinese bed springs. with snap ring pliers you don't want to skimp they may be a small not often utilized tool but they do a tough job.
And it $uck$ when they don't work properly.

svDan,
I looked up a picture on Snap on"s website. Those look right! Rock on, brother! Thanks! Nothing better than finding the right tool for the job.

When I have had to take them out I buy a new replacement snap ring because I always stretch them too far.

Try your local auto parts store. I bought a snap ring plier kit at NAPA that had different types of ends you could insert into the pliers. Straight, curved, 45 and 90 degree angle tips were included.
