Hi. My name is Alex, and i have a Ford 1210 diesel. It belonged to my father, and I acquired it after he recently passed away. I used it to mow with all summer long and never had a trouble out of it. I ran it out of gas once, and had to bleed the lines, but that was the only thing. After letting it sit for the winter I am now having trouble cranking it once again. I had added some fuel suplement to the fuel to keep it from gumming but i hadn't ran it out of gas. Plus, have bleed the lines again so i know thats not the problem. it seems like it is trying to start, but it is like it just doesn't have enough juice. Everytime i try to start it, it drains my battery and i have to recharge it. Is it the battery, or something else? Can anyone help me?

Why not get someone to help you pull it to start it the first time. Personally I dislike ether so that would not be used on my tractor! Tx Jim

Hi, I am a Ford and now New Holland dealer, I have been repairing tractors for 32 years and have had this happen. Yes your battery is probably at fault, because a diesel engine needs to spin fast to fire. The engine also has dry cylinders from sitting so long and a diesel needs compression to fire the fuel. A VERY SMALL squirt of starting fluid will help, but DO NOT use the glow plug before squirting the starting fluid. Small squirt means as fast as you can spray the smallest amount!

Thanks Paul

sure does sound like the battery. Do a load test on it or hook 2 up together and let her crank . are you getting whitish smoke as you turn it over ? If so you are getting fuel.
