My 3600 Ford has recently , the pto jumps out of gear when operating the bush hog behind the tractor. At times I have to shut off the tractor to get it back in gear. With the bush hog disconnected, the pto appears to be working ok. Any help or advice appreciated.

I think a 3600 has a similar pto shifter as a 800 has. On an 800 the detent ball will wear a grove lengthwise down the shaft which moves the shift collar. The groove gets worn between the notches turned around the circumference of the shaft that the detent ball is supposed to set into to prevent the shifter from moving. On an 800 you can loosen the lock nut, rotate the shaft, and the detent ball will be riding on a new surface. This will prevent the pto from jumping out of gear when attached to a load.
