What am I missing - 3000 on eBay

eBay has a 3000 that appears to be an English model (lights in grille). Writeup says it has power steering. I've looked at the pix more than once - even copied them and enlarged them - and I can't see a PS pump, lines, or cylinder(s) of any sort. Doesn't appear to be a tie rod/single-cylinder conversion. What am I missing here?

If you go looking for it on eBay, the title for this 3000 also has the words "John Deere" for some unknown reason. Not planning on bidding, just always keep an eye out to learn something about this good old iron.

I had seen that one too. Not only missing the p/s rams and lines, but the pump too. Fenders look like they might be from an 8N. It's been removed now, for what ever reason.

you can see the yellow paint showing through.. this was used as a construction/road maintanace model.. that could mean its plumb wore out or mean absolutly nothing.. but most yellow tractors are completely wore out... and most folks down here know that and steer clear of yellow tractors...

This one:>Link

You ain't missin nuttin. It's got a full blown case of armstrong steering. It's also got a bent radius rod on the left side, and mabey the right side. So, it's got some axle damage.
It may be a brit.... but it's got the wrong fenders to be a brit. The EU models also had the headlights mounted like that, and also had a transmission handbrake, like this one.... so that's my guess. It probably came from Antwerp. Not that it really matters, but you do need to know for some electrical issues and small stuff like that.

Either the owner doesn't know what he's selling here, or he's just plain misrepresenting it. Proceed carefully.

Here is yet another reply.. sounds like this guy is iritated. I wonder if this is an industrial unit???

Pics are gone so i can't even look again..

Soundguy

"facing the tractor look on the right side you see the white oil filter. look towards the rear of the tractor about a foot and the pump is mounted on the side. The lines circle and conect to the steering box at the end of the steering shaft. From there it works just like your vehicle does. When you turn the wheel the arms that are conected to the box move forward and back pushing the arms that connect to he wheels. Tractor came with power steering from the factory. I can look at the picture and see it all. I don't understand why your doubting me. I know a little about machinery since that is the business I have been in for 15 years. I also know the difference between power steering and non-power steering. Don't buy my tractor I don't care, but don't question my honesty. My number is 662-801-2692 if you want to discuss this. Justin Marshall"

..... so, he's all full of pi$s and vinegar, but no pics to look at.

Unless he pictured another tractor...

What I saw was a tractor appearing to be either a 2000 or 3000 based on it's axle configueration.
It had the light utility, swept back front with DOUBLE drop arm steering, and no visible assistor rams. I've never seen or heard of a Ford with internal power assist on the double drop arm steering. Not saying it never was.... but I never heard of it.

There was no power steering pump on the left front WHICH WAS THE STOCK DRIVE LOCATION from 1965-1991 (and beyond on some models). To top that, there is no place to drive a pump on the right hand side of those tractors. You couldn't physically mount any kind of a pump on that tractor to belt drive it. There isn't room. There's no place to the rear to drive it and maintain a live drive.....

Sooo. We're back to this..... If it has power steering, it's not Ford OEM. Even if it was an industrial, the pump would still be mounted in the same place.... and it doesn't have an industrial front....

What I see is a plain jane 3000 with manual steering. Nothing wrong with that either. Why not just say so.
The lack of pics (and listing for that matter) seems to indicate that mabey I'm not wrong..... but if I am, I'll be man enough to admit it when the evidence appears.

Again I say, what I saw was not a 3000 with OEM power steering.... so it's either being misrepresented, or the seller doesn't know what it is. Indignation doesn't change my mind.

BTW, Sound, I wasn't yelling at you; just highlighting my point...

Rod

My emails to him were very polite. i said that I dind't see the pow steer rams, and could he tell me where they were.. that message and another like it was what i got back.. then the listing was pulled.. go figure.

The steering column may have been setup for lines.. but I still don't remember seeing a pump.. or a steering ram.

I guess he coulda tappe dthe live engine pump.. but still.. no rams?

I should probably refrain from saying what I really think on this one..... other than I stand behind what I said already.

Actually.. I'm interested in what you really think? Do you think it was a scam listing?

To me, it had a bad odour... I mean, you asked a couple honest questions..... . and the response you got.... I don't think I'd go so far as to say it was an Afrika type scam, but mabey trying to pawn it off as more than it was. Just seems funny to me. If I had something for sale like that, and somebody asked me if I was doubly sure that it had power steering.... just in case the picture was wrong, or kind of fuzzy... then shoot back about you questioning his honesty.... and then pull the item down? I think I'd swallow my pride, answer your questions, say I was wrong if that was the case, and sell the tractor.

Originally, I'd have passed it off as a case of mabey the owner wasn't quite sure of what it was. That's not entirely uncommon..... but not after the responses you posted. But mabey I'm wrong and we're just trashing this around for nothing...

But... I've been around Ford tractors for too many years to swallow all of what he's telling us.

Dunno. Doesn't really matter to me anyway. I'm only here for curosity's sake.

Thanks. I was trying to give benefit of doubt...maybe an aftermarket torque generator spliced into the steering column ?...but there wasn't anything like that visible (and since the side tin is gone, that area's clear open). Couldn't see any hyd lines, either. That I even noticed it is a credit to all you guys on this forum - I've learned a bunch from all of you. Yes, buyer beware on this one.
