Mid 60"s 4000 3 cyl. deisel with 8 speed trans.

This past weekend I was moving some dirt with my 4000 (with frontend loader) when after about 20 minutes of work the clutch would not disengage unless I pressed the brake pedel or nosedived the front end bucket into the ground. I continued working and sometimes the clutch would disengage and sometimes it wouldn"t.

What is causing this? If the clutch disk is going out would"t it slip?

If yore lucky it's needin adjustment. If yore luck runs like mine does then either the throw out bearing is disentergrating, the clutch has bent or broken a finger, the pilot shaft bearing is seizeing up, or tranny lube er engine oil is gettin past a seal an sticking the disc to the presure plate or flywheel. Prolly time to split the tractor if you want it done up right.

Gee boss, I always did want to split a tractor. AAAAAGGGHHHH!!!!!
Oh well I knew that time would come some day. As far as I know it"s never been split before.
I know I can do it, it"s just just just I"m gettin too old for this stuff.
Another thing is that, once it"s split, I"ll want to replace everything.. Clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, seals, freeze plugs and anything else that could ever be done.
I can"t stand to half arse do it.

So are there any secretes to my first time split? Are there any links or other post that would help me?
Does my I&T manual cover enough detail?
Wait, am I getting the cart before the horse? Maybe I should try adjusting the clutch first!

Thanks for any and all help / replies.
Charles
