The ignition switch quit working so I changed out the switch, careful to get wires back right, still will not start with ignition switch. Starts fine when I short out at the starter.

What should be the next thing to look at?

Thanks,
JJ

My 4610 requires a little jiggle of the hi/lo lever because I believe I have sticky safety switch.

Check the continuity of the wire down to the starter. It should be white with a red tracer. It will go to the safty switch before going to the starter- they can fail. and I think there was a multi pin plug on the left side of the dash/fuel tank area which can give trouble.

I would check the wire going to the spade terminal on the solonoid switch and also the safety switch and the wiring to it.If it has a hi lo tranny try moving the shift lever back and forth with the key held in the start position.

Thanks for the help. Along that same line. There are two wires going into the transmission right by the hi/lo lever. These wires are not hooked to anything. I just bought this tractor a few weeks ago and it was starting ok then. I have a fifth grader who is very interested in getting the lights all hooked up again. I am beginning to wander if he..... ..... That is why I was asking about the 2 wires.
