I have a 1975 2000 Diesel and the owners manual calls for a 7psi radiator cap but I can"t find one. Anyone know if there available or if the 4psi one will work?
Thanks
Britt

bfloyd,

I'm not trying to be a smart aleck here, but have you actually tried a NH dealer? I can't imagine that they wouldn't have bunches of them in stock. I have a Ford 2000 gas that I recently bought a radiator cap for. It's a 7 psi cap. The NH dealer had it, and others, in stock.

Good luck,

yes I have, and I have made dumb mistakes before so appreciate the suggestion, the obvious is so often what one overlooks. All he had was the 13psi one when I asked. On the net I could only find the 13 and a 4psi cap. He also sold me a 172 thermostate when my manual calls for a 168 degree one. Not sure what the diference is between a 168 and a 172 is. I ordered a 168 off the net today.

Can he not get the 7 pound cap, or just didn't have one in stock? If he can't get one, I'd go with the 13 pounder and not worry about it. The newer stuff runs it, and not much changed in the meantime.
On the stat.... if it were me, I'd go with the 188, or at the very least a 180. Those engines like running warm. I can't imagine running a 168 in these old pigs...

I'll call them this morning. Didn't think to ask him before. This tractor has always ran like a top except when I got some bad D and clogged er up. It has always tended to run on the edge of hot on the dash gauge but then when its worked for a couple of hours it tends to go lower on the gauge. The funny thing is the water in the radiator never gets more than luke warm, I heard these diesels have a habit of running cold and thats what bothers me about the temp gauge running borderline hot. Guess I need to check it for accuracy.

Hmmmmm. I think if you've got a manual for the tractor you should read up on the instrument cluster. There's a voltage stabilizer on the back side of it that feeds a steady 12V (I think) to the cluster. I'd suspect that this one has gone south.... and as the tractor runs longer, the battery condition goes higher, and the gauges go wonkier than when the voltage is lower after startup. Anyhow, that's my guess. I'd really have to read up on them again to explain more.
