I wrote last week about the fit of my new repro manifold on my 55 960. Here are the pics. Notice the flange size difference between the new manifold and the original carb. it will still work, just looks awkward. Notice the height difference where the carb connects to the air cleaner tube. The carb needs to be spaced about .750 inches lower to mate properly. I have designed a spacer and am awaiting a quote from one company for the spacer. Notice the bow in the choke rod caused by the higher carb positioning. One photo shows with tube off, and one with tube sort of connected but not correctly positioned.

A carb spacer will not adversely affect fuel delivery. They are used on cars all the time. Racers use varying thickness ones, I think to affect intake velocity.

The paint is PPG DCC single stage acrylic urethane. Underneath is PPG DPLF Epoxy sealer primer. For the exact paint code for both colors, look at my restoration picture album via the link in this post. I have a couple pictures that clearly state the paint codes and mix formulas.

As far as making the manifold right, I think this manifold is made to replace more than one manifold from more than one year. So they made compromises in order to get enough sales volume to make investment in the tooling worth while. Otherwise, the volume of each version by themselves would be too small to justify the tooling cost. So I don"t blame them for that. I am surprised though that they don"t sell the spacer for my situation. I"m working on it though.

I will have to take a look at mine, I didn't have that much of a problem. Yours is quit a bit off.

Hey Brad,
Pardon my layman's question, but wouldn't adding a spacer interfere with the delivery of fuel to the manifold/head? -stephen

Hey Brad: What did you use for paint on thar engine. sure looks nice. These after market parts are sick. It would not cost nay more to make them right. I got a couple exhaust elbows from A&I where the hole did not match to manifold. Cost would have been the same to make it right. Had to grind them out to fit.

Hi Brad; Yep, same problems I had with mine. I'm interested in the spacer. I'd appreciate any info when you get your quote back. Thanks in advance.

It should be as simple to make as finding a piece of aluminum plate of the proper thickness and then use a carburetor to manifold gasket to lay out the pattern. To cut the large hole in the center drill a bunch of small holes around the diameter and then use a saber saw to cut between them.
