Al,

I have worked with antique tractors since 1960.
Another typical problem causing gas leaking into the carb is dirt in the gas. Chips of rust or a grain of sand tends to lodge in the small opening between a needle valve and its seat. This will prevent a complete seal no matter how good the float floats. It can also be a problem for the tank valve. There are several solutions. Clean the tank, the lines, and all associated fuel system. Install an in tank filter, or a large inline filter. My tractor doesn't have this problem any more, but sometimes when I will not run it for a long time I shut off the tank valve.

Good luck on you project.

Al,
David tells it like it is. This is re-hashing an old post, too, but sometimes it bears repeating. I did a rebuild on my Jube, and set everything up to specs and it flooded like crazy. Then I found a post where an old timer (I can say that 'cause I'm one, too!) remarked that the only real fix on old carbs was to boil them out. Sure enough, I disasembled it, boiled it on the stove for 15 minutes (got crud out the carb cleaner chemicals missed), put it back to specs, and it hasn't missed a beat in over a year.

Good Luck,
Cave

Hey Al. I have had simular problems with flooding and still having to cut off valve at tank when through working. There are several things that can cause flooding and you might want to look at previous messages on the subject matter. Things like float-gap setting, float leakage, varnish build up at needle valve in carb. The shut off valve is expensive (50$) and don't seem to hold up very well. I've replaced it twice in last 4 years.I'm going to try cleaning inside the carb and do float check for a more permanent fix. Also, look below in today's messages for same problem being addressed. Good luck!

There isn't alot of clearance between the float and fuel bowl on these carbs. If you accidently bent the float even slightly while you were working on it, this could be your problem. Check to see that the float isn't rubbing and preventing it from closing the needle valve. I've had to take mine back off more than once after servicing the carb for this reason. Also make sure your float "floats". You should never have to replace the whole carb because of this(or almost any other reason). All parts related to this are servicable.
