I'm the guy that had the problem with hasting filter replacement a few pages back. I thought the engine dying when idled down was a dirty fuel filter, well that didn't seem to be the case. I was out tilling last nite and every time I throttled down to change directions the engine died. I also have the famous small lever travel for high RPM issue too. The pump is the Stanadyne "DB". Am I looking at a pump rebuild here? The local pump shop is big $$$$. bjr

It is hard to say without hearing/seeing it, but the governor ring inside the pump may be going south. Generally speaking these pumps are not too terribly expensive to overhaul if the head and rotor are OK. One would think they would be as the tractor does run. Of course what is within reason to someone can be expensive to another. You don't have to deal with your local pump shop; find a reputable one anywhere and ship the pump to them.
