Can anyone tell me if a Ford Model #201 disc is too big of an implement for the Ford 8N tractor to handle? Thanks for your help---Tim

I have a 201 disc that I believe is 71/2ft it is just right for my 861 but too heavy for my 8n. The 8n will pick it up but the tractor is too light in the front, I never tried to pull it with the 8n. The 8n hydraulics are very good condition, it will pick it up with the engine idling.

Thanks Tom---I kind of figured this was too big of a disc for my 8N----do you think the rear gangs can be removed without damaging the disc itself? Would the disc be an effective implement with only the front discs being used?

Thanks, Tim

Depends on how wide the disk is. 201's were available in 6 1/2' to 10' sizes. If yours is between 6 1/2' and 7 1/2', you should be OK. I think it depends as much on your tractors ability to lift it as pull it. I used to have a 10' 201. My Jubilee could lift it (just barely), but it was too much for it to pull.

Thanks for the input---this one is being identified by the seller as an 8' disc. From what you are telling me, I am afraid it will not work on the 8N----I will look at it though, just to make sure it isn't the 6 1/2' version.

I did google it and found out some info that had a date of 1965 on it, so these 201's must have been built long after the 8N's were discontinued.

Ford must have made the 201's for the bigger tractors----thank again---Tim

Might be worth trying it to see if it will work with your 8N. I would have thought that one from '65 would have been a different model, as my info came out of mid-80's sales literature. Guess they didn't see any reason to change it. By the way... we're both in WI. I'm in Ladysmith, where are you? If the disk is in good shape and you decide to pass on it, I'd be interested if it's close enough.

The disc is in Vernon County, South of La Crosse---that is where my property lies. I will stop and look at this disc next week if it has not been sold. If I don't buy it, I will give you the contact info if you are interested.

I am very familiar with Ladysmith area---we have relatives there. My family has hunted the area NW of Hawkins, up thru Winter and down to Ladysmith since the early 1950's----Tim

If you don't buy that disc and if Fordfarmer doesn't want it I may be interested.
I think the perfect size disc for an N is about 6 1/2'
I had a 7 1/2' disc that I used on the back of a 2N.
N pulled it good so I added a couple hundred # of steel plates to make it cut better.
Made it a little light in the front end and the disc could out work my tractor but in draft control I did a lot of useful work with that combo.
I think an 8' is a bit much for an N though.
I bought a real nice 10' 201 for my 3000 last fall but it is oversized for my tractor. I bought it with the intention of cutting it down but if I could horse trade down to an 8' I'd do it.
