I have a Ford 2000 and it has some major problems. I think the carb is shot and need to buy either a carb kit or a new carb.

I can't find the serial number on the tractor and I need to identify what year it is.

I do not have access to the tractor. It is 7 hours away. But I do have some good photos of it at this link.

Can you help me figure out what year Ford 2000 this is? Thanks!

Pat

Your tractor from the images is a pre-force model dating it between 65 - 68. Tell tale signs are the vents in the engine cover and the mesh grille on the front. Sometimes if you lift the engine cover on the batt side and look on the opposite cover or forward above the radiator there can be a manufacturers type plate with all the info on it. Not always though.

Doh! Did I ever foul up..... in reply to Pat Lefemine, 06-09-2007 22:32:34
I must have had my head screwed on backwards. I have a 1967 5000 with that grille so I should not have gotten the different grilles confused but did I ever. Sorry for the wrong information in my original response. It's a 1966 model and you can still follow the link I provided to find the serial number and build date.

it has the early wrap around grill so its a '65 to aug-68 model... the date code would put it in 66

I hate to disagree with awhtx but the grill looks like pre '68 to me. Given the casting date its probably a '66. If you do a search through the archives on the Holley carb you will find a lot a people have not had much luck rebuilding them. You can switch to a new Zenith carb (available on this website) for about $300.

If you choose to go the Zenith route, check carefully!!!! The linkages are different for 65-68 and post-68 (govenors are, too). I believe this site's Zenith is a late-model one. Case/New Holland/Ford and farmersservice.com will have the correct models. Use the newholland.com parts pages to find the correct parts numbers.

Here's a link to a Ford Tractor ID website.... in reply to Pat Lefemine, 06-09-2007 22:32:34
The "6A19" casting date caode indicates January 19, 1966 or 1976. Since your tractor has the 1968 and later grille I'm going to say 1976.

Pat,

I don't know exactly what year model that is. I have a 1973 Ford 2000 that looks very similar to yours. There should be an identification plate on the inside of the hood that comes down over the battery. If it is missing, you should also be able to find the serial number of the engine embossed on a flat surface of the engine block right near where it attaches to the transmission. It is visible by raising the hood that is over the battery, and looking at the engine block right near the transmission. It is very easy to find on my tractor and should be on yours also.

Good luck,

Tom in TN
