How do you determine the year model and engine size and such stuff on a ford 800? I needed a new fuel strainer assembly for mine, sent for it, and it was the wrong one. It was for the 172 engine, and mine is supposed to have the 172, but my carb is like on a 134. Difference in the part is the size of the bolt hole that holds it on the carb and also delivers fuel.

Tom and Old are correct. Ford increased the size of the carburetor, air filter and exhaust with the 8x1 series.

Along with the carburetor, the banjo bolt connecting the sediment bulb to the carb, the paper gaskets, the fuel line and the fuel tank are also larger on the 8x1 series.

In some respects at least you can consider yourself fortunate as the earlier 8x0 tractors with the smaller carburetor use noticeably less fuel and do nearly as much work.

I believe that in 1958 at s/n 126524 ford changed the size of the bolt that holds the strainer to the carb (from 3/8" to 7/16"). 53/57 are the same for the NAA/600/800.

You might have the problem that you have an 800 but got parts for an 801 which uses a bigger carb. Best way to make sure it get the carb number and use it to order the parts you need.

I did give them the number on the tag on the carb but that didnt help. Maybe they took the number from me but didnt use it. Do you know how to determine the year of manufacture? Where is the serial number of the tractor?
Thanks to everyone for the help.
