Ford 3000 questions

I am looking at a Ford 3000 (gasoline) to be used for moving round bales and shredding. Is the 3000
strong enough to lift 1200-1500 lb. round bales with a spear on the 3 point? It has a 4 speed trans and I think I recall having seen another one with 2 shift levers- was a "Hi-Lo" trans optional?
Are there any common problems with the 3000? What is it worth? This one is on the "rough" side and the instrument panel doesn't work. TIA, Alan

I agree with Bill I think a 3000 is too small for the big bales. I would look for a 4000 or 5000.

THE 3000 IS RATED FOR 1600# 24" FROM LIFT ARM IF YOU USE YOUR MATH AND FIGURE THE ADDED DISTANCE BEYOND THE 24" A 1200# LOAD WOULD BE CLOSE TO THE LIMIT--- ALSO YOU WILL HAVE TO USE COUNTER WEIGHTS ON FRONT

Alan; In my opinion way to much weight for a 3000, a 1000/1200 lb would push the "H" out of it, look at a bigger tractor., at least a 5000.. Van

Dodge the heck out of it. Not because it is a 3000 but because of the 4 speed. If it is a 4 speed and not the 8 speed then it does not have live PTO and for my taste it does not have enough gears in the lower range. Father in Law has a 2000 and it is the most aggrevating thing in the world. 1st is too slow and 2nd is ok for most and 3rd is way too fast. Price is probably not much different between it and one that has the dual range with live PTO. Wait for that feature it will make shredding alot more fun believe me. BTW I love the 2/3/4000 series and you will find me very seldom critical of one but that 4 speed.....

I own a 65 ford 3000 diesel, and it has been one good machine. I have used it extensively for all sorts of jobs, mowing, plowing, logging I think you get the picture.
