1956 850 leaks gas out of carburator...especially out of the air hose to vent...just above the starter...what gives here? I hate to just have to shut off the gas cockpit under tank to solve this...any advise out there? thanks..Paul K.

Rod is right on. probably a carb flaot needle / seat issue.

Try 2 things..

1, take a screwdriver.. rap the side of the crb with the handle.. see if that helps.

If not, remove the bowl drain, and then the fuel inlet elbow. then use a can of carb cleaner with a straw.. and shoot a feww shots in the fuel inlet to try anddisloge anything that may be in there.

If that don't help.. time to split it and check the flaot.. to see if it has a hole or is hanging up on the wall.

if you don't hear any gas sloshing around inthe float.. check for a pinhole anyway..

Tip.. submerge the flaot in a glass of HOT water.. i there is a pinhole it will make a stream of tine bubbles..

The needle valve in the carb is leaking, or the float is gas logged.... and won't float. I'd suspect that it's just the needle though, and mostly par for the course with them. I don't deal much with those things, but I think replacing it may be more hit and miss than anything else....
Turning the gas off is always a good idea on those tractors.

If a float doesn't, is it a sink?
