Well I must be getting old because I'm thinking about restoring an old 1959 Ferguson or Ford "the year I was born". I would like one that is about 30 hp, power steering, live PTO and which I can put a loader on; I would even be willing to fabricate 4x4 onto it. If anyone knows what models were produced in 59 please let me know. Thanks, Paul

Hmm! Once again - the 660 is not a '59 model!

Hmm! Think they got the point this time?????
Most likely not. Now all we need is someone to say the 2000 also has live PTO.

The 660 had the live PTO, no power steering and the two 10" clutch 5 speed. I believe the power steering was an option, nice but not necessary.

Opps, I have to go look in my service manual, you're probably right. But I got the model and live PTO part right!

In 1959 Ford made several model tractors and several configurations of each model.

501 offset; 601 utility; 701 row crop; 801 utility; 901 row crop; and 1801 industrial.

The 501; 601; and 701 gas engine has 33 to 35 hp and the diesel has about 32 hp.
The 801; 901; and 1801 gas has about 48 hp and the diesel has 39 to 42 hp.

All except the 1801 came with power steering as a option add on from the factory; but you may or may not be able to get aftermarket power steering for the 1801. Not real sure.

To get live PTO you need to select the correct trans. Only the 5 speed double clutch and the SOS trans offers live PTO.

While the 1801 industrial would be best for a loader the others will work under normal home use. The row crops would be the worse with a loader.

So if we follow you search wants and give you the tractor that meets all of them we can narrow it down to..... ....
661 5 speed 671 SOS
681 SOS
You may change your wants to meet another tractor but these 3 are the only ones that meet it as you have stated.

Now the problem starts. While these tractors were built in 1959 they were also built from late 1957 to 1962. Finding on built in 1959 will be the hard part because you will have to weed out the same model tractors built in other years. AND most sellers barely know what model they have; never alone what year it was built.

Since you sound like you don't mind 'tinkering' one up.. how about a 59 model 661.. that will get you the live pto and 30-ish hp.. Find a ps kit for it, if not already equipped.. and then look into a front axle swap with an industrial unit to get a heavier front axle for that loader work...

You guys with your 800s, 801s. If you read Paul's post, he wants 30 HP. 800 is too old anyway and both these models were 42-45 HP tractors. The 601s were rated in the low 30s for HP.

And no . . . not all of the x01s had live PTO! see my previous reply.

The 800 and othe x00 series tractors were produced from 55-58. The x01 series were built beginning in 1958 and continuing through 1962. What Paul wants sounds like one of the 601 Workmaster series. If he wants live PTO he has about three choices:

1. 661 5spd with 2 stage clutch

2. 671 10spd SOS with independent live power (my personal choice)

3. 681 10spd SOS w/independent live power, 2spd and ground spd PTO

Ford made 5 different series of tractor in 59, 501, 601, 701, 801, 901. I believe all of them may have live pto and power steering as an option, and if your lucky you can find an 801 with an Elenco 4 wheel drive kit on it.
