Yes, yes, I'm not sure of all the bad things that could happen. But it's a lot of work getting to the valve train not to put it together propely. Get those caps on there. I remember something about measuring clearance between under cap and valve stem that may need grinding, not sure, just get the manual out and follow that or go to auto machine shop that does Ag stuff they should know. You don't need a valve dropped down on a piston, just don't go there. bjr

well the head just been redone i just notice it had one cap on top the Exhaust Valves and the other 3 not thr guess the owner befor i had it lost them..and also rebuilt the bottem half the motor to.but just wonder if them caps help it run..cause the motor idles real good but when u rev it up runs rough and it is a 172diesel
