I now see a Petronix ignition unit on ebay for the Ford tractor. Has anyone used it and have any comments? I know it will get rid of the points and eliminate setting, but are there any other advantages(I hope so for the $100 price)?

I haven't used the 6V petronix but can vouch for the 12 volt units. I have purchased 3 of them. I sold two of the tractors I put them in but up to that point didn't have a bit of trouble and never had to touch the distributor again. I have one in my 860 and haven't had to touch it either. I used to always have to clean up my points because I let the tractors sit up a bunch.

Make sure you keep the polarity correct for the unit.. and make sure your 6v electricl system, including starter is in tip top shape. once voltage lags a bit.. the 6v pertronix is just a 100$ non operational toy..

Magic ingnitions are very touchy on 6 volts.problem has been covered in the 9n newsletter. If the starter pulls the voltage down the transistors wont conduct. No spark no start..
