Howdy folks- I went to buy a 1973 3400 today. Gannon with 3 way hyd, nice loader, no PTO, 4 speed with shuttle. It is the first time I have ever seen a tractor without a clutch. I drove it around on level ground for about 15 minutes to warm it up. The 3 point seems to leak down about 3" and raise every 2 to 3 seconds causing a jerking motion which makes the tractor rock back and forth. Power steering doesn't work. When I went to drive it up on the trailer it stopped moving. The engine RPM remained the same, but the tractor just didn't have the pulling power to get on the trailer. Now the RPM gauge doesn't work, but from the sound of the engine I could tell it remained the same. I removed the filler plug on the trans near the shifter and could see fluid about 2 to 3 inches down. I told the guy I wanted my $3800 back so he agreed. The hour meter is stuck at 3199 and not moving. I really like the tractor. Can anyone enlighten me about the problems and whether I should go back and make deal with this guy?? Thanks in advance!

It sounds like you may be looking at a 4400 with torque convertor transmission. It would not be uncommon that you need to increase RPMs to load on the trailer but if it's in low gear and won't climb at mid RPM the hydraulic clutch pack may be slipping.
