NAA Ford Question

My brother-in-law has an NAA for sale. It has several problems and I'm wondering what it might cost to fix it up. The exhaust manifold is cracked, the steering is too loose to drive in overdrive, the sherman over/under works fine but the transmission won't stay in regular drive without holding the lever, and the hydraulics have to be bled everytime and then it takes about 10 minutes to raise. I would have to hire everything done to fix it, what am I looking at for cost? Who in North Central Iowa would do something like this? Thanks.

Based on the comments, I don't think I can afford to fix up this tractor. He wants at least $3,000 for the tractor and when it's family, I think I'd better back away from this tractor and look for another that isn't needing much repair. I know where there is a good 8N but it doesn't have the sherman. Could I buy one and have it installed for $1,000?

Lex is pretty close on price.. except the hyds. I'd suspect you may have the OEM vane pump.. and if so.. if it's worn out.. you may want to go to a piston pump. Thus.. figure about 600-750 for the pump and lines, and then some for the labor.. etc.

Unless you want to keep it in your familly.. i think i might try to find a runner.

You could always take that list of problems to a mechanic and get a balpark figure. Maybee you'd get a 'deal' by letting 1 guy do it all. If so.. the price may be more attractive.. etc..and you will know what you have..

I'm no tractor expert, but if the motor is sound, the rubber is good and the body tin is good, I'd take it for about $1200. Anybody can change out a used exaust manifold for about $100. You could find a used steering box for about $275 and change it out yourself. You could probably find some one to take care of that trans for about $1000 and the hyd. for about $600. All said and done with purchase price of $1200 and work repairs you have about $3175 on a $3500 value
