Ford 1710 clutch problems????

I"m new to tractors so you"ll have to excuse my ignorance. I just bought a house that came with a Ford 1710 tractor. I used it once to mow and everything seemed to work well. I then took it on a trailer to a friends house to do some work. No matter what gear we put it in it won"t move. It"s acting like it"s not in gear or something. Where should I look? Is this likely the clucth? Would low hydraulic fluid cause this problem?

Thanks,
Aaron

The 1710 has three range settings(for ground speed), to the left side of the seat. You may have the shifter in-between the high-mid-low ranges. The tractor will still "start" when set up like this, but will not move. However, if you leave the pto enguaged, it will not even start. Let us know what you find.

What transmission does it have? A 9 speed? 12 speed? I'm not overly familiar with them, but I didn't think they had a hydro then.... so the problem won't be oil related unless it's a hydro.
The most likely problem is a bad clutch. Does the PTO work? It could be worse, but I'd start at the clutch. The first thing to check is the free travel adjustment on the pedal. There whould be an 1" or so free travel. If it doesn't have that, adjust it so it does and go from there...
I'd expect that you'll be splitting it for a clutch though.

From what I understand it has a 12-speed nonsynchromesh transmission.

I've been trying to learn more about it. I've never had a tractor before and it came with the house. It seemed fine for several times that I've used it and now it won't go in gear at all.

On a tractor if the clutch was out would you grinding or anything like a car?

Thanks for all the help.

Post back about the pto whether it works or not.

Does the shifter feel funny.. like lacking detents?

Range selector firmly in?

Thanks for the questions. I'm out of town right now, but I'll post when I get back.

Thanks again,
Aaron
