I"m on a quest for a rear rim for a 961 diesel. The original was a Ford power shift with the multiple slots. One was changed before I bought it and replaced with a Titan rim which had the lugs offset to match the spin out hub. I can find 6 lug rims, but would have to cut the lugs off and re-weld 4 of them to fit the 961 hub. That"s doable, but before we go down that path, I thought I"d ask for input from those who know. Also, someone hand-painted this tractor red (all over), but it looks to me as though it was originally blue and white vs. red and white like my 860. Can anyone shed light on that?
thx,
bill

I cut of the plates and welded them to a blank rim. The new plain rim (no loops) was about $100. I cut the slotted plates out of the old one with an angle grinder with a thin metal-cutting blade, but that's all I had available. Definitely doable.

Buy a new rim with 6 loops. Then go to the salvage yard and get a center for a 8n,naa,600,800 a non spinout wheel center. Bolt it up and be done no cobbling.

Willie:

New Ford power adjust rims are not available from any source.

Rob has given you good advice, and this is probably the best solution if your rims are not repairable.

Your options are repairing the rims that you have, removing the rails from your rims and fitting them to new 6 loop rims or searching for decent used rims. Decent used PA rims are hard to find and expensive because this problem has existed for some time.

I can't help with the rim problem, but here's what a 961 should look like.

Wille,

I have taken a 11x28" titan rim with the 6-lugs & drilled out each spot weld. There are 4 welds to each lug, I used a uni-bit that was 1/8"-1/2" bit. If you drill from the outside (where the tube sits), it will eliminate the spot welds that hold the lugs on. It is time consuming, even after you plug each hole. The key for the power guides is to get them spaced properly & square with the rim. I found it best to do a "mock up" with the center in place before you weld it solid. If you tack weld each guide, put it on your tractor & spin it to see how smooth it will spin out & also check how off center it is by placing a block of wood next to it while spinning the wheel with the tractor in nuetral. It does take time, took me 2 days to get it the make me happy.

As for the color issue, it is to my understanding the the hundred series are to be red & white/Ford Grey. It wasn't until the thousand series that blue & white came in. There were also some hundread series tractors that were a gold color, however I am unclear with why they were that color. Hope this helps. Any questions are welcome.
