Is it necessary to change hydraulic oil in my 4500 Ford? Or just change the filter so often. Thanks

Changing the filter will only remove those solids trapped in the filter. Most filters are 50-60% efficient so you are missing any large particles that escape the filter media, you are also missing ALL the particles that are smaller than the filter media. Time and heat break down the additive package of the fluid, moisture from the air causes the formation of organic acids and sludge. Light fractions of the petroleum in the fluid evaporate through heat causing viscosity to increase over time.

Bottem line, change at least at the manufactorers recommended interval.

Look at your operators manual, and follow the lube intervals in that. If you don't have a manual, buy one.
