If it is not one thing it is another. In the distributor base going from the brass screw that the coil connects to is a brass or copper connector called a conductor. One end goes on the brass screw the other end to the breaker points. Well I apparently managed to break it in half then to make matters worse melted it while trying to repair it. Do they sell this part or can I hard wire the points to the coil and if so any quess on the wire gauge...8-10?

Bob:

Yes, the copper conductor is still available from CNH but not inexpensive. I keep a couple on hand at my place.

You can, of course, replace it with a short length of wire.

Dean, can you go straight from the coil to the points?

As dean mentions.. add a small wire with ring terminals to replace the copepr strip.

You could probably make a new one with some 1/4" copper tubing a hammer and some patience.. etc..

Yes.

If you remove the terminal and plastic insulator from the distributor body you can run a wite directly from the coil to the points but it is likely that the wire will eventually become entangled in the mechanical advance mechanism. I would not recommend this option.
