I am reassembling the lift cover on my 55 960. Its an early model in the 35XXX range. I think I have the valve parts correctly lined up for assembly, but would like the experienced to have a look and see if I am correct or not. The green arrows show a check ball and spring that are not shown the IT manual or ford assembly parts so I am wondering if they are supposed to be there? I was stupid and didn't photo when I dissassembled. My second question is Do I have the springs noted with red arrows in correct position? The lighter one on the check ball and the heavier one to the rear. Oh, yes I did have the plug and pilot zinc plated for corrosion protection.
Thanks, Brad_bb

Well, I now know the answers to my questions. Last night I watched the hydraulic repair video and confirmed that:
1.The lighter spring denoted by the green arrow should be in the rear position (it should be the first part that goes back into the lift cover.
2. Ball and the heavier spring that is shown in my pic at the rear of the assembly, should not be in this valve assemlby at all. This spring and ball go into a hidden passage in the draft lever shaft bore in the lift cover. The ball and spring are the detent for the two positions of the draft lever.
3. the machined steel part that has the relieve hole, the one in between the two springs is reversed in it's orientation in the photo. I will try to post a corrected picture tonight if I can.

the spring and ball that your green arrows point to don't belong the rest looks right.I just rebuilt one of these a month ago. Also there should be a o-ring for the check valve seat.

My Ford Service Manual does not show the spring and ball you have green arrows pointing to. It also appears that the part between your 2 red arrows, "Back Pressure Valve Pilot", is turned the other way in the Ford drawing. I've never had mine apart so I can't help any further.
