Try putting in the clutch, main trans in N. Jiggle the Sherman lever. It may be stuck part way in <--> out. If it is a combo you pull the lever out of the housing, then down for 1:1. Try wiggling it and push it in to the housing, then down.

You do know that you can ONLY shift that sherman trans when the tractor is at a COMPLETE stop, right? It's pretty tough, but won't like shifting on the fly.

Thanks that did the trick,I see that the lever has 3 positions it was in the middle ,when I got it ,now the lever is really low to the bottom ,which is the lowest range .I have a backhoe and loader mounted on this critter and it doesnt seem to have live hydraulics ,so I need to bee in low with the rpms up to function the loader .I just brought this thing back from the dead ,hoew would think to put a loader on a non live pto ,unless in missing something . Thanks again for help

The NAA has live hydraulics but not a live pto. There was a dealer installed optional live pto available, but they were kind of rare and not many of them survived.

I am going to try to learn to use the loader this way and if I cant master or tolerate it ,I will see what my options are for a front mount pump or maybe ,try to use the vain pump if I can find the in and out ports on the trans case, anyone know where they are ,Do you think using the vain pump for a heavy duty loader would work?

i'm guessing that you are using a PTO mounted pump ? The Sherman trans will also slow the PTO down as it slows the travel speed down. Fairly annoying characteristic....

Your "best" solution is to mount a pump on the front crank. A 10-15 gpm pump is the right range. Next option is the live hydraulics from the vane or gear pump. That will work, but volume is low (about 4-5 gpm) and the pressure is probably going to be low too.

I think this site sells the crank adaptor and shaft to allow mounting of the pump.
