I was wondering if you can service the top of the sherman by removing the steering collum support tower and or shifter plate.I see the steering tower is bolted over the sherman and I think I just need to get into the top of the sherman to reinstall a key and lock ring on the shifter shaft. What do you think of this aproach.
thanks ed

I have not tried that, but it's worth a shot. There are only 4 bolts holding the shift cover on the sherman.

You should talk to John Smith about it. He would know.

third party image

You can almost imagine the access is possible from that picture. Sorry it isn't top down, but that was to show the broken teeth in the trans and not the sherman. And I ain't gonna split it again just to get abetter picture!

That is a link to my online pictures of refreshing a sherman. May be helpful.
