1801 with diesel motor question

Hello ,A freind of mine just bought a 4cylinder diesel in his 1801 backhoe we believe it is around a 58 to 60 mod Can anyone tell me some specs on the motor cu in manufacture,were the heck is the id #? This things blowin black smoke like crazy .Any info would be great.Thanks in advance ed

Black smoke is fuel. There is probably a leaking injector. Good news is that you can get 4 remanufactured injectors for under $100.

A guy on ebay from MN has them. He also has the copper washers and the rubber parts that seal the head. I've had good service from him.

Blue smoke is oil - good thing you don't have that!

If the injectors don't fix it, then you would have to look into the pump. That's more $.

It should be a 172 cu in engine like the 801 series had.
Probably needs injector work

Provided the battery acid hasn't corroded it away, the model and SN are stamped on the flat on the bell housing behind the starter and under the left edge of the battery tray.

This unit is all Ford. A copy of the owner's manual would spec it out for you.
