I believe most V8's are installed in 8N model tractors. Would a 800 model with the 4 speed be a better choice? This model with a sherman would have stronger gears and better brakes or am I wrong? Is there anyone on the forum that does the V8 conversion? I think I would enjoy having one for tractor rides and antique plowing. Would this be a good choice? Thanks.

funk made 200 v-8 8n9n conversions, about 600 are out today, most home made. A few NAA kits were made.
The 800 does not have a kit available, and the 4 speed is basically the same as 8n. The 8n funk is very exciting but not too durable.
I have parts if needed.
many tractors will accept much bigger motors...

If the NAA had a kit.. then that means there is an adapter plate that will mate to the 134ci red tiger engine.. if that is so.. then you have the workings of an 8XX kit, as the 172ci engine and the 144 diesel will have a compatible bellhousing bolt hole arangement as the 134ci engine.

Sounds like the 800 series wouldn't be easy to install a V8 into unless you found someone really handy. How fast did the Funk tractors go with the 6 or V8? Thanks.

I don't see why an 800 would be any harder to repower than any other.. once you have the basis for the bellhousing .. everything elese is just parts and ingenuity.

as for sped.. look at the N's engine rpm, and speed ratio's per gear. Apply those new ratio to whatever RPM you expect out of the repower engine.

At an auction near me they sold an 8n with a flathead V8 and a sherman overdrive. They claimed the top speed was 45 mph. I believe it is because there was no governor and would run at a higher rpm than the tractor engine.
