Can anyone let me know if I can purchase a Thermostat for my 55 Ford 640 at the local NAPA. May save some bucks if I don"t have to buy it at New holland dealer. If you know the Napa part# that info would be appreciated or do you think that car parts store could tell me? I kinda doubt it.Mine is missing and I want to install it. I appreciate everyones input here. I have not posted much but have gained a lot of knowledge just reading other posts.

So which one did you choose? 160 or 180 degrees?
Just curious in case I need to get one for my 640.

From a NAPA parts book dated 1984 (numbers could be different now): 160 degree thermostat is part number 70. 180 degree thermostat is part number 170.

Thanks to Jim.UT I checked at NAPA and both part numbers 70 for 160 degree thermostat and 170 for 180 degree thermostat are current and correct for my 640. Should work in all Gas 134 engines from 1953 to 1964. 36 coupe was correct about the 1964 Plymouth Valiant using the same thermostat. I had NAPA counterman cross reference from the Plymouth 6 cylinder which came up with the #70 and #170 thermostats also. This is handy as you can go to any Auto parts store in your area and ask for a 1964 Plymouth Valiant thermostat in temperature range of 160, 180, 192 or 195 degrees. They both measure 54mm O.D. at the base same as the CNH Thermostat and fit well within my stock gasket. Purchased the 160 degree from NAPA. As for the only difference was in price, at NAPA $5.20 verses $16.80 at CNH over 300% savings. Thanks again for yall's wealth of knowledge and taking time out of your busy day to respond. Here is a pic of me on Gladis taken last Fall at our weekend hideaway. Currently I am restoring her as you can see and this forums archives and contributing posters have been invaluable to me in this pursuit.

Thanks for the follow up. It's nice to know my old book still has valid information in it.

A thermostat from a 64 plymouth Valiant will fit if they dont have tractor listings.

I'm sure they'd have it, but I don't have a part number. I'm pretty sure I have an old NAPA tractor parts book at home. If you email me later tonight to remind me I'd be happy to see if I can look up a number for you.

It might be pretty late before I can get to it. I have hay down and need to rake it after work. No chance to leave work early today....I'm the only one here today. All my employees are sick (both of them). One recovering from knee surgery and the other is having a diverticulitis flare up.
