I POSTED LAST WEEK ABOUT A PROBLEM WITH MY 601 WORKMASTER CUTTING OUT, AND RUNNING ROUGH AFTER A FEW MINUTES UNDER A LOAD. IT ONLY DOES THIS UNDER A LOAD. I HAVE GOOD FIRE . WITH IT STARTS CUTTING OUT IF YOU PULL OUT THE CHOKE IT RUNS SMOOTH FOR A SHORT TIME BEFORE GOING BACK TO THE SAME PROBLEM. I PUT A CARB KIT IN IT BUT I MAY NOT HAVE FLOAT ADJUSTED PROPERLY ?

Had similar sounding situation last spring with my newly acquired 801. I even noticed that the sputtering and stalling got worse when I turned to the right and downhill, so was virtually convinced it was an intermittent fuel blockage -- did all the checks others have suggested. It finally stopped and wouldn't go at all, and then I found it wasn't getting a hot spark, so I started changing everything -- plugs, points, condenser, and finally the coil. When I started to change the coil, I discovered that the twisted wire was hanging by a single strand at the coil. Apparently it would make better contact when the tractor was facing uphill or leaning left and not enough when it stretched forward or to the right. Changed wire, got my engine back. Food for thought.

As the other guys said. that really sounds like a fuel obstruction..

In general, 'needs choke to run' issues are fuel obstructions, electrical problems leading to weak sparks, and vacume leaks.
Ditto what old said.. 601 series are not jubilee. jubilee was a NAA machine, 53/54.. 01 were 58/62. Mostly the same 134ci engine.. however it always helps to ID your tractor correctly... as it will confuse the parts counter people less often, and the real tractor people won't snicker at you as much...(wink)

First off which is it a Jubilee or 601 different tractors but same size engine. Any how heres what you need to check out. Pull the drain plug from the bottom of the carb and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas for 5 plus minutes. If yes then you missed something in the carb if no pull the fuel line off the carb and check again. If you have a good flow at the line but not the drain plug you have a carb problem if no at the fuel line you have a problem back to the tank

I wonder if you have a vacuum leak. Try with it running spraying some carb cleaner/brake cleaner, etc around the intake/exhaust manifold and carb and see if it gets better. If it does, look for cracked metal and bad gaskets.
