hello gentlemen, I read these posts a few times a week and you are a wealth of info, so I figured i would ask what other people may think. I currently own a 53'jubilee that doesn't look pretty but runs great.I own approx. 20acres. 10 of which I mow. Closer to the house I mow regularly with a LandPride 6ft RFM and further out I use a LandPride 6ft brushhog about 3 times a year. This setup is working for me at the time, but I have a chance to upgrade to a 72 ford 3000 . My question is will that be a good upgrade or not? 1). It does not run as good but a little TLC may fix that. 2). The hydraulics are jerky. Is there a adjusment for that? where mine on the Jubilee are butter smooth. which is good for mowing and back blading. 3).do you think this tractor is too heavy for mowing near the house. I fear that this tractor is more ag and my question is do you feel i will be happy. On the other hand I am upgrading 30 yrs and 20 HP What do you think Go for It or not Thanks Gsolo

Thanks for your input guys. In reply to bjr the 3000 is gas. It has a live pto. It has power steering.I'm not sure what a SOS trany is but it is a 8 speed. low 1 is a little faster than I would like. noticeably faster than my current Jubilee and high 4 i think you could take on an interstate. The tires are fair to good, not cracked but a little worn which my be better on the turf. what concerns me the most is the jerky hydraulics. going up they are jerky . maybe in 1 inch increments, going down its fine. just wondering if it's the nature of the beast much like a 1/4 inching valve but worse. All in all this guy wants my Jub. and $1000.

allthings being equal, yes, its a good deal..but... if the 3000 is plumb wore out.. then no... but i said all things being equal.. the 3000 will have live hydraulics and live pto normally and and 8 speed trans.. you can aftermarket power steering to a 3000 for less than $400 brand spanking new. the jerking lift can usually be fixed with an oring and and space on the lift piston and gasket and oring on the hyd housing... i use a common engine lift to pull these hyd covers all the time, turn em over and pop in new orings and replace... so its not a big deal if you have an engine lift-jack kit or you need two strong men to pull the cover and put it back....very very carefully to not damage the gasket and oring... the hydraulic cover is a bit bulking and heavy on a 3000 for one person.. the 5000 lift cover is really heavy...etc...

More Information in reply to Gsolo, 10-02-2007 11:18:49
Is the '72 diesel? Does it have a PTO? Does it have power steering? Does it have the SOS traansmission? How are the tires? Need some information here. I personnally will never own anther tractor without power steering. I need a tractor will slow 1st gear for tilling. So would you be happy with the newer? That's for you to decide if it meets your needs and doesn't put you into the poor house tryin' to get the thing to operate to your satisfaction. bjr
