I need to replace the seal and bearings in a rear axle on a Ford Diesel, 2000, year 1972. I am having a problem getting someone to take it apart for me (machine shops). Can anyone help.

Bill,
I haven't done it.
According to the IT manual on a 2000 you have to split the pressed on collar then remove the bearing to replace the seal.
I don't see the replacement collar listed here at YT so I suspect you'll have to get it through New Holland.
I had the same rear seals replaced on a 3000 which has a lock nut instead of the collar.
Both require a puller about 2 feet long.
It was one of the only things I had done at the dealer.
I removed the axle and backing plate from the tractor and brought them in that way.
Cost with parts to put seals in both sides plus a couple broken lug bolts was I think $275.
There is a fellow here goes by the name of William F who put new seals in his 3 cyl backhoe and built all the tools to do it.
It was a nice job with nice pictures too.
Do a search for his name maybe his pictures are still up.
Myself it was easier to have them done.
Good luck

That would be me.
I did build a wrench to work that goshawful lock nut - works like a charm. third party image
I've since welded a large nut to the handle four feet from the socket and found a chart that tells how to set the torque wrench to get the 600 or so ft/lbs the book calls for.
My service manual covers the 2000, and the collar you have to cut off and replace every time you want to work on the seals or bearing seems to me would earn the design engineer a special place in Hades. Here's the page from the service manual (frustrating - covers every model from 2000 to 5550 - really hard to use) about the collar and nut - sorry it's so big, wanted you to be able to read the test.
