Hear my sad tale!! My mechanic just informed me that the loader pump is the wrong one. Additionally, he thinks I would be unhappy with the rig even after a new pump. (no power steering, heavy loads). My question is: Would this loader fit a 1000 series Ford? Or better put, what will this loader fit? My thoughts are that this loader on a larger tractor with power steering and new pump may work well. The little 860 will be restored and used with a bush hog or box blade. Used loaders are a rarety in my part of the world. Like to have never found this one. Thanks in advance

What did he mean when he said it was the wrong pump? Not the one it came with, will not fit, what? A lot of differant pumps will work. I just wonder what he meant.
Like the others said, you can add power steering.

Joe--The pump. When I bought the tractor the loader worked very slow and had little or no power to pick up even a light load. The mechanic said I needed the lift cylinders rebuilt. This I had done. Upon putting the new rebuilt cylinders on the tractor it does the same thing. The mechanic from the git go said the pump (looks new) may be too small. At this point I had him remove the loader for new paint and other repairs. Please suggest a better pump. I would like to use the loader. I really NEED it. Sorry I have little time to get involved. I have to rely upon the mechanic's expertice. Thanks in advance.

As John and AWHTX said.. a little weight int he rear helps a loader. i have a loader on an 850 and a 660.. both with virtually 'free' concrete weight tubs on the back.. both are 'armstrong' steering.. and I manage.. even with a good bucket of horse poo..

here's one I made from a scrap cattle feed tub.. an old discarded shorty cat1 pin/cat0 sized drawbar, and a few bolts/ pieces of scrap flat iron.. All i had to do was buy the sakcrete..

Don't forget that if you add weight to the back of the tractor, the front will lighten up some.

You may want to build a 3pt weight as a hollow box out of lumber with an internal metal frame to hold the weight and connect to the 3pt. Then fill the box with sand or even cement. If you do it, putting several PVC tubes in it will give you a place to hold tools and what not.
Target weight around 1000-1500#. (seriously)

I have a loader on my 861 without PS and I can manage it. I'd try it first before I gave up on it if I were you.

Hi Bob; Your mechanic is correct, without power steering a tractor with a loader is tough to steer. (Good for the arm and shoulder muscles though)lol. I have an 850 w/FEL that I put an after market power steering unit on and you can steer it with one finger. I used a unit from Jackson Power Steering. Not difficult to install. You can find the Jackson Power Steering by going to www.jacksonpowersteering.com. The unit runs about $1200 and Mr. Jackson is very helpful. There are other units on the market but most say they are not made for tractors with FEL's.

My loader is also a Davis and it would fit on an the early 2000 or 4000's as believe the wheel base deminsions are similar if not the same as the 800's and 801's.

Davis made a few different styles of front mounting. Some with legs on the front of the side frames and some without. Both attached to the front axle support assembly. The rear of the side frames attach to the rear axle. With all that said, you would need to find a tractor with like or very close wheel base unless you can weld, cut and fabricate.

Davis also put their loaders on MF and Case, but heaven forbid you would go to the dark side. Hope this helps.

Bob, That loader would fit a 2000 or 4000 utility pre 1965 for sure. I guess my question wuold be, why not add power steering to the 860? and a new pump to the loader? cheaper than buying another tractor. you can put power steering on it for around $1500 and a new pump for loader 3or 4 hundred. As far as that loader fitting anything 1965 and newer I couldn't tell you, I dought it. But one of the others could probably tell you fore sure. John

We had Farmhand F10 loaders on 2 Fergusons,an M farmall and a Cockshutt 30. None had power steering and only the Cockshutt had live pto. We got along just fine with what we had.
