641 hydraulic pump isn't turning proofmeter shaft ...

I've got a 1958 641 and the proofmeter doesn't work. I thought that the cable or meter was bad, but disconnecting the cable from the meter, I can stick my finger in there and turn it. So the meter is good.

Leaving the cable hooked up to the meter, I can attach a cordless drill to the pump-end of the cable and get a reasonable reading from the meter when powering the drill. So the cable appears functional as well.

But when I'm running the tractor, the place where the cable mates up with the hydraulic pump doesn't turn. It looks like there's a collar with a notch which grabs the cable and turns it and that part does not move at all.

Anybody seen this problem before? Might the shaft inside of the pump have busted or a gear broken off? Hydraulics work fine as I can raise and lower the hitch (it does bob a bit, but not enough to be too annoying) so the pump itself is functional and the system is fairly tight.

You pump has a replaceable "proofmeter drive shaft".Remove the hex bushing from the pump to access this shaft. You will probaly have to get your part from a New Holland dealer.Be sure to lubricate the new shaft when you install it.
