3 of them on ebay right now... 2 841's and an 871. The guy who has one of the 841's has 2 other 801's with Elancos, (I think one is a diesel, too) and one other tractor that's too well hidden to know what it is. I've never gotten to see one up close, and he has 3!!

Hello Ford Farmer , First off it's ELENCO , ELwood ENgineering COrp. that's how they came up with the name . They were originally built in Elwood, Illinois , then in Joliet , then lastly in Aurora, Ill. before going out of production in 1978 . Most were sold on the East Coast especially in New England because of the small farms with small fields but also because of the year round work (snow removal during the winter to keep the farm running) also why most tractors have power steering here (loader use). Elenco's are in every state but tend to thin out past Penn. / Ohio going West where the farms got much larger and needed larger tractors . Going south they thin out past West Virginia but they are there down just very limited . As far as being rare they are considering Ford bulit 100,000's of tractors and Elenco bulit only 1,000 's of front axles . Survival rates are better with tractors than old cars and trucks , it's just that more guys know about Elenco's now and are looking for them , twenty years ago when I bought the remains of the company it was to keep them running because there was so many of them working and still are but now it's also for the collectors . there was times when I had 20 or 30 of them at my shop here in Mass. because I was the only guy fixing them . Thanks Tony Jacobs

Hey Ff, if you are 5 hours from Racine, you must be way up north. Just swing down to Mosinee to Strojnys' to touch an Elenco. He had one in the yard a year ago anyway.

Yeah, I'm north a ways... right near US 8, 90 miles east of the MN border. I've seen Stojny's ads and looked at their website every now and then, but don't go east of here much. They're about 1 1/2 to 2 hours from here, if I remember right.

Did you notice that all of them are from Pa.

Now think of the odds of seeing pictures of 5 elenco tractors at one time from the same state.
I really thought a elenco tractor was rarer than that.

yes, I had noticed... but just assumed that they are either more common there (is that where Elenco units were built, by any chance?)or that just happens to be where collectors with enough cash to buy them are. The way these tractors move around the country now.... I sold my 950 about a year and a half ago, and it's in Alaska now.

If you can get to one of the Ford/Fordson Collectors Association national shows you stand a good chance of getting to examine some of these tractors as close as you wish. Tractors with an Elenco are typically at the shows as well as many other very interesting tractors and implements. The schedule shows Denton NC 2008 and Racine WI 2009.

Well, at least Racine is in the same state as me... but still a 5+ hour drive. Thanks for the info.
