I have my dads 850...runs good...he has never had a muffler on it...just a short piece of pipe right off the manifold..its a little loud when running but for years its been ok...will using the tractor without a muffler mess anything up or anything of this nature? Thanks for your advise...

As long as you have a pipe on it you will not mess anything up on the tractor because the hot pipe will heat any cold air coming in once you turn off the motor.

But lets look at some of the ADVANTAGES of running without a muffler.
You will be able to ask everyone to repeat themselves.
You will get to wear some of those neat miracle ears to watch TV.
When ever 2 people talk at the same time you will not be able to understand either.
AND most of all you get to feel like your camping out every night because you hear crickets in your ears 24/7.

Now if you do not think these are advantages; then put a muffler on the tractor.

My 2N has the "n"-Complete crossover manifold, open dual exhaust system. Gives it a great power boost but makes it noisier; sounds like a Harley. I really enjoy the extra "kick in the azz" it gives it and thusly tolerate the increased noise. My nickname for it is "The Thunder Lizard".

Your hearing.. and maybee a slight increase in chance to start a grass fire...

Mufflers are pretty cheap.. save your hearing..
