Under the transmission case of my 640 there is a plate that is bolted on. Part of it appears to be under the distance piece where the retainer housing, and part under the transmission.
Can't find anything about it in the book.

It sounds to me like you are talking about the inspection plate on the bottom of the trans. It is a square plate about 3" on each side with a bolt in each corner. There is a hole right in the center of it and there should be a cotter pin fastened loosely in the hole. If your engine's rear main seal or the trans's input seal is leaking the oil will drain down through the hole. The cotter pin vibrates to keep dirt from plugging the hole. You can remove the plate and look at you clutch and throwout bearing.

Pics are out, the tractor is 300 miles from me now.

If you are sitting on the tractor, it's on the right hand side almost under where your feet are with four bolts going through a 1/8" or 3/16" plate

Until I see a couple pics , its very hard to see what & how the plate is bolted down . Send me a pics & maybe I can help . I have a 640 so it should be the same .God bless, Ken
