I have a 641 and it runs good, but, I have a rubber gas line that leaks and rests on the engine. I see photos here and see that the 641 actually had ridgid (metal / copper) lines from the gas tank, to the sediment bowl and finally to the carburetor. I need to replace the current line and want to take it back to it's original state if possible. I have ordered a shop manual however since I use the tractor regularly I can't wait for the manual....does anybody have a drawing and specs. (diameter, length, etc.) of the original set-up? Thanks

After you install the line on the tank and tighten it. Maybe I am getting ahead of myself. If you go with the factory line it is much easier to install it if the tank is raised up since there is not much clearance between the tank and the rocker arm cover, once the line is on, and tightend, lower the tank into position, the line runs down between the rocker cover and the intake/exhaust manifold. At this point attach the sediment bowl to the line finger tight screwing the fitting by hand as far as you can, then you have more leverage to attach the sediment bowl to the carb. Trying to bend the steel line to meat up with the sediment bowl in place on the carb is much more difficult. Maybe not for some of you young bucks but I find that I can never get my hands in the right place to make everything match up. Some times being old and lazy has it advantages! Good luck!

I would advise going with a new line from New Holland. You will never bend the tubing with the precission of the benders bought at your local parts store. I would also start the line on the sediment bowl before attaching it to the carburator.

Wagonmaster, thanks for your input but, what do you mean start the line on the sediment bowl before connecting it to the carburetor?

Well my opinion may not count much but the more you filter your gas the better. The screen on the sediment bowl is good but if your gas tank hasnt been cleaned and coated i would leave the inline filter on there.

I would think about putting a inline filter inbetween the gas tank and the carb.I have a 641 and I kept getting trash in my carb from a dirty gas tank. I cleaned my tank and installed a inline filter.

Noob, I currently have a gas filter on it but I was going to go back to "as original as practical". What is the difference between the filter and sediment bowl? I thought that the sediment bowl was a filter of sort using a different method. I may have not mentioned that I am not a mechanic, I got into this thing and it's like a bad habit!!! I got it running by reading this board and a book I picked up at TS. And when I couldn't understand or find the info I needed, I would ask here, so any help I get, I appreciate. I want to get a '49 Ford Tractor next and keep it totally original. My wife will kill me....

Your sediment bowl, which, by the way is called a "bulb" in the Ford parts manual,(go figure) has a filter screen in it. My experience is that the screen can clog, rust out, tear, or otherwise give you fits. My solution is to remove the screen, install a rubber gasket from NAPA, (part# 730-9506) and add an inline fuel filter, for a lawn tractor, which you can get at Walmart.

You can install the filter where it doesnt show if that's your preference, but since it's made of clear plastic, I like to put it where I can see if the gas is flowing as it should. That said, my tractor is a worker, not a beauty queen.

Hit the CNH website.. select ag equipment, then north amaerica, then parts search, search for parts.

type in 641 inthe box at the top.. select the 4 cyl ag tractor.. then choose fuel system.. look for the pic that comes up to show the location line you need.

Thanks, do you have a schematic of the way the fuel line runs? I can purchase the steel lines and bend them the way they need to go, but I need the two lenghts. One from the tank to the sediment bowl and the other from the sediment bowl to the carburetor. Where does the sediment bowl go? It seems that anywhere I place it, I'm putting a glass bowl full of gas, pretty close to a hot engine.

Not 100% sure if the sediment bolw should be like the one on my 841 but if it is sounds like some one took yours off. The 841 I have has the bowl mounted right to the carb and then it has a line off of it to the shut off under the tank. Brake line works real well as a replacemnet line. Now if some one did replace the way it should be you need to find a New Holland dealer and see if he can get you the correct parts

The steel line attaches to the shut off valve under the fuel tank. From there it is routed to the sediment bowl assembly. It is routed behind the muffler, next to the engine block. You need steel because it is close to the heat of the muffler. I always have a spare sediment bowl gasket and screen on hand. Clean fuel makes for happy seat time.
