Lifting pallets with hitch on 801

I am picking up an 881 in a couple of days and I was wondering if I should pick up a pallet lift while I have the trailer borrowed. The question is: Will an 801 lift a pallet using the hitch high enough to set the pallet on a typical tandem trailer? This would be great if it does for moving woodworking equipment.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info.

Does a hydraulic top link require a remote hydraulic feed?

Thanks

Allen

Yes, the hydraulic top link will require remote hydraulics. It's an expensive setup if you don't have the remotes already. This site sells the kits - either the valves that mount to the hydraulic top cover, or the adaptor kit to run any ole hydraulic valve that you choose.

For occasional use lifting pallets, it probably isn't worth it, but if you plan to do lots of work with your tractor, it can be pretty handy. Search for Dan Robertson's hydraulic top link pictures on this site for some ideas.

I have been able to lift a pallet high enough to set on my tandem axle 18' car hauler trailer, but not high enough to set in the back of a pickup truck. My tractor is an 850.

The 801 will work well for lifting pallets. Height shouldn't be a problem, although that would depend on the configuration of the pallet forks. I use a King Kutter carry-all for pallet forks, and can easily lift things onto my trailer. The only difficulty is that the hitch does not keep the pallet level while lifting. This isn't a problem when moving things around if the load is secure, but if you want to set the pallet down on the trailer, it gets awkward since the front of the pallet will land first. I solved the problem with a hydraulic top link, so I can re-level the pallet on the fly.
