Any one have any ideas for increasing hp on 4000 3 cyl gas ? Is head a flat head? Bigger bore doesnt always get alot. usually carb and cam are best any one agree? Bigger valves? polish and port? What do you think?

Trade it towards a 5000.

We are pulling dead weight & percentage so a 5000 will just increase load pulling amt. More tractor weight the more you gotta pull to get good percent

Power is proportional to airflow so more displacement, bigger valves, more valve lift and duation, open induction system and a big exhaust and more revs. You could also increase the compression ratio and do all the above. Finally, you can increase the flow even more with a blower, mechanical or turbo, but you may have to reduce the compression ratio or use an antidetonant (water, methanol, etc).

Drop a 201 diesel in there and smoke it up!
If you're determined to stay with the gas job, then move more air... You could try starting with the govenor and turn that up some. They have flat torque curves, so the faster they turn, the more power they make... I'd think that you might want to change the carb at some point to help move more air. I don't know what air the manifold and head will move, but I'd suspect that it is somewhat more than the engine presently needs... If not, add positive pressure...
I spose the other question you should ask is whether you want power or more torque. If you want more torque, or a different curve, then you would look at the cam and porting. Otherwise I think the answer revolves around getting more air in there...

The engine is NOT a flat head. Normal cam in block over head valve design.

Larger bore, longer stroke, port and polish will help. A cam would have to be custom ground to your specs and the governor changed to allow higher rpm's. Electronic ignition is helpful. Thought about forced induction?

You may find it cheaper to swap in a larger engine.

Bingo!

Once more true before the introduction of the blower in a bottle.
