New to me 64 gas 4000 w/SOS. seems to be a nice running unit but lots have been neglected. bought an operaters manual and an IT FO-20. took loader off today and will start with draining all fluids. So first of maybe many questions. manual calls for M-2C41 in SOS, HYd, and power steering. What do you guys that operate these use? What about differential, manual calls for SAE80. I"ll try to do my homework and not post stuff i can find on my own. thanks

Any universal fluid that meets or exceeds the M2C41 spec is acceptable in the SOS . NH 134D is Ford's (CNH's) answer. I use Archer Unifluid in mine. I still use 80W90 in the rear end.

Much more important than changing the filter under the cover, is making sure the suction screen is clean. On most early SOS tractors this was also the drain plug. However, some of the late priors (4 cyls like yours) had a separate drain plug under the tranny. If yours does, make sure you pull the suction screen as well.

While the FO-20 is useable, it would better for you to have the Ford SOS supplement SE-8175-S1 or a reprint of it. It is much more detailed than the IT manual.

Andy:

I use CNH 134D in my S-O-S as well as the hydraulic system and PS but anything that meets the CNH 134D spec should be OK.

Be sure to change the filter beneath the top cover when you change the oil.

Dean
