Other suggestions are all good. Just be very careful about jambing on the brakes on the road at high speed. Easy to flip over and get injured.

If you have a big 2 or 3 bottom plow or double disc, use them for a while. Raise and suddenly lower the plow. The shock can help pop loose the clutch. As others have said, may take an hour or 2 after it is all up to operating temps.

Normally a tractor used on weekends will not stick, but if one sits for over a month, it's a good practice to block it down. Certainly one that is idle over the winter should be down. I use a C clamp or a vice grip.

I basically did the same as soundguy; I started it in 2nd gear and drove it around in 2nd with the clutch depressed and jamming the right and then the left brake. Didn't work. I rev shifted up to high gear and took it on the paved road, opened the throotle to a little over half and jammed the brakes on and off again. It's a little wierd driving around with the clutch peddle down. Anyway I did that probably 10 or 15 times and it freed up.It is a little hairy doing this in high gear on pavement but there was no way I was going to split a tractor because of a stuck clutch.

Just for my own information, about how long had the tractor being idle? Have seen posts like this before, and wondering if jamming clutch peddle down when not in use should be a course of action.

Its easy to start one in gear if you know the trick. Just take the wire going to the start button off or short it to the frame any place and the engine will turn over and probably start unless you put it in to high a gear. Be ready to drive it around for 10 minute or an hour some pop free fast others take time and heat to brake them free. Then block the pedal down from now on. Another thing you can do is pull the starter and spray brake cleaner in/on the clutch and if you can turn the engine over a little at a time to get the whole clutch

We just got a 960 in the shop with the clutch frozen. We ended up breaking the tractor in half to free it. Even then, it was a pain.

Put a load on it like a bush hog and drive it in 3rd gear for a while with the clutch depressed.

Hi Dave, problem is that I cannot engage PTO with Bush hog already on because of frozen clutch... I can "jam" it into first gear and have tried that ... no good result...

Sure you can.. you'r just not trying..

Remove bush hog drive shaft from tractor.. shift pto to engaged on tractor.. block clutch down... be pointed in direction of some grass to mow... start tractor in gear... get to mowing.. make a bunch of figure 8's and stomp the breaks on the outside wheel when doing so... should eventually break free if it is not a total rusted up lost cause ( like the shaft is rusty.. etc.. )

Heck.. most of the time the shock load from starting the mower in gear will pop them loose.

remember.. to start it in gear, ya need a pocket knife and you want to be at low throttle and ready for her to take off. Might hold the brakes down just to be mean .. ole starter might pry it apart like that..
