Ford 600 with Loader price

I am unfamiliar with the Ford tractors. I have rebuilt/restored several Johnny Poppers, but now I just moved to PA from TX and need a good working tractor. After looking at the compact diesels 4x4, I realized I can't afford a $12,000 on up tractor, so now I am looking for an older tractor, 2x4, with a loader and 3-point. I found a Ford 600 with loader. THe 3-point leaks down or settles down after about 30 minutes. (All based upon what the owner tells me). I have about 9 acres of wooded hilly land and a 700 foot driveway. Looking to clear the thorns, use to haul firewood out, and clear the driveway from snow. I also have some big rocks to move, not sure of the weight. Will the Ford 600 suffice? What is a good price for a running Ford 600 with loader and minor problem with 3-point?

Thanks in advance.

IMHO.. the 3pt staying up for 30 minutes isn't even a problem. if it didn't stay up 1-5 minutes.. it's be a problem.

Post back when you find the model #. As dean pointed out.. the 640 is 4spd, non live pto, and the 650 is 5spd, non live pto, and the 660 is 5spd, live pto.

I have a 650.. love the tractor.. it has a ford 1-arm laoder on it.. i paid $3400 for it... it uses (slow) tractor hyds... but around here.. that $$ is a good deal. Most places north of florida.. that 3400$ would buy you a ford with a front pump and faster hyds.

As with anything.. bigger tractor = faster the work done.. but in most cases.. you can do the same work.. with limited exceptions.

Those old fords sure will work.. good luck.

Here's a pic of my 660 moving a large dry tifton bale.. say.. 900-1000# at least.

Unlike today, there were many makers of loaders for the old fords. The best ones have dual hydraulic cylinders for the boom and bucket. Look to be sure there are 2 hoses on each cylinder.

I think the 600 will do fine on 700' of driveway, you will want a 7 or better an 8' wide back blade. Then you can angle it and get the snow outside of the wheel width. It works best backing up ... pain in the neck.

I have a Jubilee with a FEL down here in Maryland, and it handles the snow quite well. You will need some wheel weights or other ballast on the back end to offset the loader weight. I also have a 600 that I bought locally for about $2300 a couple of years ago so your $3000 sounds reasonable if the tractor runs fairly well.

Asylum:

The Ford 600 is an upgraded Jubilee.

It has a 34 PTO HP engine and live hydraulics.

Some models have a dual clutch and live PTO. It must have a 5 speed transmission in order to have live PTO but not all 5 speeds have live PTO.

Decent models sell for around $2500-$3000 in my area without loaders. Add maybe $500 for a decent loader with front mounted pump, a bit more with a hydraulic bucket.

Thanks Dean, $3k is the price asked. I haven't looked at it yet, so I don't know if it is a 5 speed or have a hydraulic bucket on it. THe main thing I want is something that will be reliable and sufficient to do the job I want done around the house.

In my experience, a 700' driveway is quite a chore for a 2wd tractor that size. I think it's doable, but I prefer a truck with plow to be able to get speed and throw the snow off the curl of the plow. The tractor is much better in tight areas. A snowblower would be great for that application, but you definately need a live or independent PTO for a blower, in my opinion. $3k seems right, as long as it isn't beat to junk. Good luck!
