My '71 3500 3cyl gas is flooding out. I remove the fuel line from the carb on level ground and I have flowing fuel!My carb is instantly flooding. My tank valve obviously doesn't close, but my float should shut off the supply of fuel to the carb....right? I rebuilt the carb about 6months ago and it ran like a new tractor. I took the carb of an checked the float to make sure it was set right by the manual specs, all o.k. Looking into replacement carb but looking for other suggestions before I fork out $300.

If you turn the gas on at the tank and it starts overflowing the carb.. then your float is bad, stuck, heavy, misadjusted, or there is a problem with the needle / seat.
