Have four lots that needs clearing, heavily wooded. The landfill is 13 miles away and cost is $35.00 a ton. How well does a three point wood chipper work? I mean is it quick or slow? Does one jam often. Just need you guys experience with a chipper. It will be mounted on my 860. Thank!

Big chipper on a big tractor works great. 8" sounds fine, but I wouldn't suggest any smaller, hydraulic feed is a must to keep productivity up. A smaller chipper will drive you nuts on that size a project, they are pretty slow and the one I used did not have a hydraulic feed, so there was a lot of pushing as it got toward the brushy end of the branches. It was quite a pain. I always keep my eye open for them at auctions. Haven't bought one yet though.

If you get a large one, like your 8", especially with hydraulic feed they are fast.

Naturally, the hardness of the material and the diameter will dictate the chip speed.

Have you thougth about having the land mulched by a person with a forestry mulcher like a timber ax or fecon head ? Costs are in the $1000 an acre range and it leaves the entire area clear with a layer of mulch.

They seem to be more popular in the SE than the mid-west.
