2000 6 volt flasher

On my Ford 2000 6 volt system I want to run safety flashers for the road. I have 2 standard lights with 6 volt bulbs that are plenty bright but can't seem to find a flasher that holds up for some reason. The 12 volt flasher doesn't warm up enough to flash and the six volt works for couple of weeks then flashes too fast. I do have an 8 volt battery installed to crank it faster and the system puts out 8 volts. I had earlier problems cranking with a 6 volt and stepped up to the 8 volt battery but the charging system holds at 8 so I do need to charge it occasionally. Any help or similar problems?

Try going back to a good 6 volt battery. I have the same 2000, and mine always starts on 6 volt. I will only use Interstate batteries. They never let me down. If you find that you don't have enough cranking power, check your connections, and have your starter checked out. It could be drawing too much amperage.

I agree with the other response. 8 v. batteries are just stop gaps for hiding other problems, like bad connections. Either convert to 12v. or go back to 6v. since 8v. isn't compatable with nuthin'. My $.02
