I'm trying to replace head gasket on 1963-64 ford 4000. model 4110-5(172cid i believe). This will be 2nd time to replace. Just noticed that several water jacket holes are blocked by head gasket. Gasket is blowing between 2-3 cylinder and also near bolt at front water pump. All other holes line up,even other water jacket holes. Since i don't know squat, should the head gasket block some of the water ports. the head checks to .003-.004" flatness on surface plate. Have no real good way to check block except with a steel scale and feeler gages for flatness. I bought original gasket at Ford dealer and have not purchased second gasket yet. Do I have wrong gasket? Any help appreciated, thanks

Check your old gasket..... then take it to your Ford dealer for the correct replacement... sounds like you are a little unsure of the motor specs, although I'm not too familiar with the thousand series..... ..

thanks for the response. I put a gasket on to replace the "original", and thought maybe the original was wrong, because blown out exactly same way. Since talked to Ford, and they say some ports are blocked by gasket. Had head machined flat to .0005", but block has .005-.006 hollow between 2-3 cylinders(blown out there). Wasnt sure to reassemble with this hollow, but dont have alot of spare time to pull block for machining. Want tractor for michigan winter snow.
thanks again
